Immersive Music Experience!

We are in year one of our son’s drumming journey with Andy Sells at The Rhythm Station in Everett. Andy is an enthusiastic instructor and naturally worked to find a good pace and structure with our student. We look forward to drum lessons every week and are always eager to get to work in this fun environment. Andy is a talented multi-instrumentalist in his own right and his passion for music and teaching shows. It should be noted that our time together captures music appreciation along with the instruction. This is an important aspect, especially with a younger student, as the feel is always very vibrant and spontaneous, based on what is felt music-wise on that day. There is plenty of “lesson” but having an ear for what the student is into, and adding Andy’s genre-spanning taste into the mix is something that is unique. We’re really happy with the path we’ve chosen and look forward to the next chance to groove! Thanks, Andy

I'm a long-time musician, college music student, and multi-instrumentalist, and yet all my life I've always wanted to but never gotten to try playing drums. These days, however, I have two kids and an intense job. Somehow Andy has made the dream possible, meeting me where I am with exciting music and tricky challenges but also understanding when the kids are sick or the job had me up late all week. He's helped me fill in the fundamentals, kept me honest, and pushed me to try things outside my wheelhouse, while also teaching me the genres I always wanted to play and leaving room for all that I'm juggling in life right now. And he's a lot of fun. Couldn't be happier with my choice of drum teacher! I look forward to every lesson.

Lessons with Andy are great! He has taught me a lot over the years. I’ve learned so much about music in general as well as the history of drumming/music. He taught me the fundamentals of drumming and I always leave the lesson with something new to me practice. As well as being great drummer he’s also a great teacher!

Max has always loved music, and dancing, but I couldn’t convince him to pick up an instrument. He started out messing around on the X-Box Rock Band drumset, and was intrigued. Then along came Andy. Andy’s passion for music and drumming fueled Max’s curiosity. Max loves his sessions with Andy and looks forward to them whether in person, or on Zoom. Not only does Max have a new found love of drumming, but also finding out about new music in general.

“Great For Beginners and Experienced Musicians"

I have been taking drum lessons with Andy Sells on and off since i was in eighth grade (age thirteen) and a complete beginner. Six years later I am currently nineteen and while i am a much more confident drummer i am still learning talking lessons from him, and still learning alot. Not only is he a cool, friendly, and easy going guy, but he is an expert drummer. He can play any style extremely well, and to make it even better he can help teach you those different styles with ease. He pushes you, but not in an aggressive way, he instead talks to you finds out where your at and makes you want to practice every single day and believe me he'll know if you haven’t practiced. As someone who has been with him as both a beginning and an experienced musician i can confidently say he will find ways to challenge you, guide you and help improve your skills

"A one in a million teacher."

Of all the music teachers I've had for the various instruments I've played, Andy was by far the best. His style of teaching is different than any other teacher because he focuses on different types of music and unconventional drum beats. While in the lesson, you may think he's throwing random pieces of music at you, like eccentric African songs, but after time it's easy to see how it all connects to relevant music and definitely helps to better understand and appreciate any music you may be into. Andy never gave up on me even when I wanted to give up on myself a couple of times. He always pushed me to do my best, and was still a cool guy that introduced me to a whole new world of music.

Lessons with Andy are super engaging because he keeps an open mind to your interests while sharing a depth of knowledge on many styles of drumming, and music all around.

"Simply awesome teacher, drummer, and musician"

I took lessons from Andy here and there, never consistently due to my fluctuating financial status, which made Andy a great teacher for me. Completely understanding of my situation, he made sure to focus my lessons on what will help me that moment and in the long run, and techniques to expand my view of drumming while taking lessons and while away from them. He listens ,he's patient, and can correct a problem pretty quickly, plus he's an awesome drummer!

While taking lessons from Andy Sells, I found a competent teacher who was knowledgeable and focused. His communication of musical ideas was solidly backed by examples from current and legendary musicians. He made learning coordination for music understandable and accessible. Having been in the music community of Seattle for many years, Andy has earned the respect of his fellow musicians by being stellar. A dedicated musician.

Andy Sells is an attentive and patient drum teacher whose passion for different kinds of music and instruments really impacted my learning experience in a positive way. I have taken lessons from a handful of different amazing teachers and my lessons with Andy stick out as having been some of the most fun because of his personal interest in various music genres. Andy would teach me old school hip hop beats and then pivot to funk or rock ‘n’ roll seamlessly, enriching my experience as a drummer and fellow music lover. Also, it was a bonus taking lessons from someone who played live drums around town because it meant that he was a resource for figuring out the best way to play songs on stage and that he was dialed into the music scene. Years later and I still tap the drums to “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe and remember the time he taught me that groove!
